While most epoxy products are “food safe” There is some grey areas to be aware of.

Cured epoxy is considered food-safe and most manufacturers claim their product is 100% food grade, its customer’s responsibility to ensure a suitable system, check the ingredients, and strictly follow the instructions.

The grey area with epoxy is that food safe does not mean it’s safe to eat, epoxy is still a plastic and it’s only safe to touch food and only if fully cured. So epoxy is not actually a good idea for use on cutting boards, or anything that cutting will take place on as Cutting on epoxy can cause small pieces to come off and become embedded in your food resulting in epoxy entering your body.
What about coloring epoxy? Mica powder is a common coloring agent used, mixed in epoxy you get some amazing colors but it can cause chronic health effects just from breathing it in.
I’m not here to tell anyone not to use Epoxy, in the right situation it can be a fantastic product to use. Its strong, easy to use, and is very durable, but there is a time and a place for it to be used. I do not feel it is a product that should be used when coming in contact with food and that’s why you will not see epoxy being used on cutting boards I sell to people.
